Loosey-Roosey

I've been extremely fortunate to have had a few commissioned pieces to paint this past month. They were so much fun to do and really helped push me further as an artist. It is so amazing when someone gives an idea that I love, but I might not have ever attempted to paint it had someone not asked for it...

So this past week I have had some time to paint whatever; that sounds nice, doesn't it? I found myself getting so lost in the freedom of painting whatever I wanted that I was frozen for a moment. So many options! So many colors! So many moods! Stay tuned--you never know (and neither do I!) what I might paint next. That's the fun, isn't it?

Painting a Bridge SOLD

I found humor in the words "painting a bridge" and kept imagining myself sitting on an actual bridge, touching it up. In reality, I was very excited to paint this awesome commissioned piece of a suspension bridge. I thought it would be the perfect thing to paint with a palette knife. I'm proud of the way it turned out.

Thanks for stopping by!

The Multiplication of Dandelions SOLD

I am forever happy to paint dandelions--am even okay with seeing them in my yard, which is a relief as there seem to be more than usual this year... The other night I captured the most beautiful photo of one in the seed stage right as the sun was setting behind it. Had I waited a minute or two longer I would have missed it. Some day I may attempt painting this one.

The painting below was equally exciting because it was done specifically for my clients taste and decor. I was invited to visit her home and see the space where the painting would hang and also to talk about colors, furniture, and the accessories near where the art would hang. It was a great experience because I myself tend to know what I like aesthetically--fun to be on the flip side of that.

Also went back to acrylics for this painting for the first time in a long while. Oils have always been my favorite feeling medium to work with--the acrylics were much more challenging to mix. However, the drying time is hard to beat!

Paws Crossed SOLD

Dogs are so fun to paint because the dog's personality, or what you interpret it to be, seems to come through. We have had plenty of Golden Retrievers, and I've never met one (at any age) that didn't act like a huge, affectionate puppy. The dog here, Remy, seems to be sending a different message with this calm demeanor and sophisticated pose... I'd be curious to meet this dog and wonder if it would be interested in mentoring a few Goldens that I know!

Everyone Needs a Wish

I have been in various stages of work on four commissioned pieces the past two weeks. The first completed piece was this light and airy dandelion painting. It was done for a great local charity called Chasing Chad, and is something that I feel proud and honored to contribute to. The dandelion paintings seem to be popular, so hopefully this piece will fetch good bids at the auction.

Blue!

Without a doubt it was the blue boat that drew me to this photo. I've been craving blue like you wouldn't believe and thought this might do the trick. I felt it was a compromise--painting something more subtle, but getting that pop of color that I love.

This painting was a real challenge for me. I hope you like it.

Collage of Art

Am participating in a 30 Marketing Ideas in 30 Days Challenge and today's idea was to make a collage featuring some of my paintings. So proud to have enough paintings to complete a collage of this size! Many of these now live in new homes, so it is nice to see them all together like this. Much like visiting with an old friend. Still trying to figure out who I am as an artist--do you see it yet? Let me know what you think!

Thanks for visiting!

Your Photo Painted SOLD

A week or two ago I posted to my Facebook page looking for photos that friends/fans would like to see painted. A few of the photos that I received were of dogs! I had painted my first dog about a month ago and decided I was interested in giving this another go. The thing that drew me to the photograph that I ultimately selected was the water and all of the colors--I knew this would be a challenge. I am pleased with the way it turned out.

I am told this is the North Umpqua River in Oregon and that it is quite beautiful.
