Little Moments, Big Love

My younger son had his fifth birthday this past week and I have been wanting to paint him for quite a while. I took the photo this was painted from maybe two years ago, and it has always been one of my absolute favorites. Such a boy--ball in hand, balancing on a line, and watching his shadow beside him.

In the Zebra Zone

I have been wanting to do a painting of a zebra for quite some time, mainly because of the black and white patterning. Got completely "lost" in the zone on this one--love when that happens!

Timid Tulips

They have every reason to be shy. The morning sun was just waking them up when I snuck up with my camera to capture the amazing light. I think they may even be blushing a bit.

Free Wishes

There is something magical that happens when light shines through dandelions just so. It has such a dreamy quality about it. I tried to keep your focus on the one with all of the thick detail on the left--it was tough. The others are in various levels of blur, but always still retain their circular shape.

I've been painting so small lately, 6x6 and 8x8 mostly, and had a really great time painting this one larger. Wish away! :)

Ready for Your Wish

There is something so magical about dandelions. The wonder of seeing the seeds blow on the breeze continues, even as an adult. Plus, it never hurts to send a few wishes out into the world.

Barn Owl

I've worked my way into an extremely happy place with my painting lately. Using the brush has started to feel more natural and am loving the looseness that I've been able to achieve thus far. Getting the thick texture in there with brush as I would do with palette knife is something I'm interested in exploring more.

Monarch on Zinnia

I remember when I was younger there were monarchs everywhere. It seems they've had a hard time the past few years. Hopefully soon they will be crowding my zinnias like they did a few years ago--every flower with its own butterfly.

Geraniums

Geraniums adorn our front step every year. I love them because they just keep flowering and looking good all summer long.
