Amaryllis Bulbs

My recent trip to the garden shop was definitely worth it! Not only did I get to absorb all of the warmth and amazing color, there was also much painting inspiration. This is my third painting of flowers from that visit.

Sit a Spell

This painting was also inspired by my trip to San Francisco this summer. My sister has an adorable walk-up apartment in the Castro. There is a staircase out the back and her landlord has the most adorable little garden and little spots to sit. Made me just want to stay and sit a spell.

Timid Tulips

They have every reason to be shy. The morning sun was just waking them up when I snuck up with my camera to capture the amazing light. I think they may even be blushing a bit.

Poppies with Stripes

You must know by now that I love stripes. Also LOVE poppies. This was painted loose as can be with palette knife. Stripes and loose seem like opposites, don't they?!

Gerbera Daisies

Here is a fine example of what my work looks like if I go at it with zero plan.

Things that I like are the colors, the composition, the looseness, the spontaneity... I loved using the brush and still LOVE painting on black and seeing the bright colors pop. This was really just me having some fun. Sometimes I need a break from trying to be a serious artist!

Just Because

I love this softer color palette with the bright pops of orange. For this painting I used a very limited palette of five colors and white: cadmium yellow medium and light, sap green, alizarin crimson, and cerulean. It makes for such nice color harmony.

Continue to enjoy painting the flower bouquets using my palette knives. They require a LOT of paint on these larger canvases (although this particular one isn't too large) to get that thickness and those great knife marks. Enjoy!
