Going for It

I was having a conversation with a friend last week about where I hoped my art would eventually go... And then I wondered why I wasn't trying to get there. I'm not in a comfort zone by any means, but I have been "waiting" to paint things that sometimes feel beyond my abilities. I decided to just go for it and enjoy the process with this one. Would love to know what you think of it!

Japanese Irises

My husband and I were sitting out on our patio having a drink as the sun was going down. It is one of my favorite times of day, when the light changes so drastically in our back yard and that sunlight shines right through the flowers. Definitely something I wanted to capture as a painting. Not only because of how beautiful it looked at that moment, but also because of how it made me feel.

There was another time when I painted a different cluster of Japanese Irises in my yard. Those were done with palette knife, and the flowers were growing (and painted) all in a line. That painting is hanging in my home because it was 12x24" and I was so proud of the detail--did I mention it took FOREVER to paint? Honestly, I much prefer this version because of the looseness, which is much more fun to do.

Daisy Shadows

My little guy has been done with preschool for the past week, and I have to say, it has been quite difficult finding time to paint! Will have to figure out "making it work" during the summer months when both boys are home. Did find some time to paint this one, sadly because my son isn't feeling well and is laid up! I hardly recognize him when he isn't moving. :)

Blue Delphinium

Definitely one of my favorite flowers! I planted this one two years ago in the front of our house and it has literally quadrupled in size since then. There was a hummingbird there this morning, drinking... It felt like a sign.

Wisconsin Wildflowers

My family and I can look down our backyard into this spectacular view of wild flocks. Of course I had to ride my bike around to get closer views of what I think is this most amazing display we've had in years. Being up hill and looking down into the greenbelt, it truly does looks like a river of wildflowers.

Lion Around

I couldn't be happier with this guy--love the looseness and the visible brushstrokes. He was painted on a black gessoed canvas, with bits of black showing through.

Three Babies

We have been so in awe of nature at work with this awesome nest and three baby robins. All of us especially love watching the mother and father bring in the worms. We have been trying to figure out how they know who to give the next worm to... The strongest, or the hungriest? Sure would be interesting to track it!

Anyway, three babies in one nest--wow. Can some of you relate?
