Purple & Coral
A friend I taught with asked me to do a commissioned painting for her newly remodeled bathroom. She provided a color palette and wanted flowers in a glass vase. I couldn't pass up another opportunity to paint glass and felt spring with this one! :)

Japanese Irises
My husband and I were sitting out on our patio having a drink as the sun was going down. It is one of my favorite times of day, when the light changes so drastically in our back yard and that sunlight shines right through the flowers. Definitely something I wanted to capture as a painting. Not only because of how beautiful it looked at that moment, but also because of how it made me feel.
There was another time when I painted a different cluster of Japanese Irises in my yard. Those were done with palette knife, and the flowers were growing (and painted) all in a line. That painting is hanging in my home because it was 12x24" and I was so proud of the detail--did I mention it took FOREVER to paint? Honestly, I much prefer this version because of the looseness, which is much more fun to do.

Lilac
I could paint flowers every day right now--and who could blame me really?! My kids wanted me to paint an eagle... I went with lilacs instead. :)

Bluebells
I'd like to start out this post by thanking all of you for looking and for following my blog. This is such an incredible journey for me, and each painting is a new lesson in learning. I can't imagine doing anything I love more. Thank you :)
Bluebells are another one of my absolute favorite flowers. They will always remind me of our family friend Lisa--got my bluebells from her son's yard. There is no grass there, only bluebells. Heaven.

Alliums in Blue
This painting was a commissioned piece for a collector who loved the original painting. I myself have really fallen in love with the Alliums paintings, and may have to add one to my personal collection! They feel modern and interesting, yet soft and simple too.
I love seeing Alliums everywhere in late spring and early summer and plan to plant a few new varieties in my yard this fall. They are actually part of the garlic family and so most animals tend to stay away from them. Perfect! We live on a greenbelt and have deer and lots of critters!

Japanese Irises
There are irises planted in a few areas of my yard, but the entire North-East side is dedicated to them. I fondly call it the "iris garden" side of the house (which is a bit of an exaggeration), and so enjoy the spring/early summer display of yellows, peaches, and purples. There are a few spots of these smaller Japanese Irises that were transplanted from my mom's garden and I just love them.
One section happened to grow in this line of six, and I thought it was a great composition. Perhaps I should have started with painting one iris, as they were quite complicated to paint, especially with a knife! However, I am so proud of the final painting and definitely feel I stretched myself as an artist with this one. I hope you enjoy it!

Looking Up at Alliums SOLD
Warm weather was missed and is so appreciated now that it has arrived. It is amazing how one can learn to function and live without the colors, sounds, and smells of warmth. Especially love having the fresh air blowing through the house again.
The alliums have already bloomed, but I was lucky enough to catch them as they had just started opening. Like a bouquet to help remember this time of year and to be kept forever! Next up are the irises blooming in their yellows and purples and all of the pink peonies!
