Aslan

This beautiful yellow lab was done as a Christmas commission. The photo it was painted from was almost sepia. I tried to keep the gray/fogginess to the painting, and really love the outcome.

Grapes on Glass Plate

The last glass painting was definitely looser than this one... However, after painting the grapes I felt the plate needed to be tidier or it would attract more of the attention. SO much fun experimenting with this glass; going to keep at it!

Glass Cup & Saucer

This antique pink glass was catching the light in the most beautiful way. The pattern is multi-faceted, like a prism. Love it!

Beets (3)

Last year I painted two smaller beets paintings from this same photo. It was always my intention to paint them this size and I am thrilled with it! Can't you imagine this hanging in the perfect kitchen?! For now it is wet off the easel and drying where I can see it! :)

Bird Plate

I'm in love with this plate and it had to be (if not the star) the supporting cast in this production. Really wanted to keep it loose, and I think I accomplished that. The sunny colors and freshness make me so happy!

Cocktail, Anyone?

It started with the Moscow Mule and then I was inspired to try painting other drinks. Glass is one of my favorite things, and equally fun to paint. Using transparent colors, I tried to keep them loose.

Satsuma

It makes me so happy to go and find subjects for still-life paintings, and was even more thrilled to find the satsumas again. Can't ask for more than these juicy, delicate fruits--complete with leaves as if they've just been plucked from the tree. Like cooking, painting seasonally is so inspiring!

Clucking Around

Earlier in the fall I went with my son's class to a great farm. There were chickens and goats everywhere, and of course I brought my camera. I've included the photo used to paint this one which was actually quite blurry. I liked the red barn in the background originally, but then decided it would compete too much with the hens.

Dog Commissions

Both of these paintings were commissioned as Christmas gifts. I love having the opportunity to paint dogs. My hope is always that their little personalities shine through.

Nestled In

Decided to continue with my measuring cups on patterned fabric theme. These adorable hedgehogs were resting on a cheery table runner. I love the reflected colors on them!

Measuring Up

Ever have those days when you just need a good challenge? Me too. :) These stainless measuring cups and patterned fabric provided it! One trick was keeping the oranges and blues separate, but also keeping the pattern loose. Also really love the lost edge on the shadow side of the cups. The front of the cups also provided a perfect example of painting what I saw--the reflection.

Yellow Tomatoes

The kids were home from school the other day and acted as my "production company". We made a fun time-lapse video of me painting this one. I'm going to try and do them more often!

A Little Sour

Was struggling to find some inspiration the other day, so went to my kitchen. The only thing calling to me was a small yellow lemon. I sliced it and started to play around with compositions. Am really happy with both of these!

Angels (2)

I love how different angles show different emotions. In the past I have painted her looking more protective. For these two I wanted to show sadness or heartache.

She's another one I am inclined to do a series of.

Tree Treasures

My son collected some of the berries from the tree in our yard. The sun was shining through them so beautifully they seemed to glow. I added a pinecone to make a nice fall composition.

Feeling inspired by chickens lately. This one was found while at the farm with my son's first grade class. She was quite cooperative with her poses. :)

Little Cutie

"I love to take in the good whenever I eat an orange. I have at least two a day, so I get an opportunity to experience this moment often. As I break through the skin, I gently close my eyes and breathe in the sweet scent. I hold that pleasure in my mind and think about how I am the first person ever to see inside this orange and taste its fruit..." Hardwiring Happiness by Rick Hanson

Was inspired, and I just happened to have a bowl of little cuties. :)

Unpretentious Pumpkin

This is the same pumpkin I used in previous painting with a flower arrangement. It's quite small and modest, but has a beautiful stem. If a pumpkin can look elegant, this one sure does!

Elephant Rear

Went and looked at my Paintings file and this is the 19th elephant that I've done! This one was created for the Daily Paintworks "Elephant" challenge and I decided to have some fun with color and also decided to go for a rear view. The photo for this painting was provided by friends Wade and Sheena Hanson who have given me many great photos from their trip to Africa.

Beer Flight

The beer culture has really taken off these past few years. It's fun going into a liquor store and selecting craft beers or ordering some favorites from restaurants. This flight was from a great place in Milwaukee. No decisions necessary!

Still Summer...

In my mind summer is officially over once school begins. Maybe it's the teacher in me? However, when temperatures are in the 80s with 90+ percent humidity, it still feels like summer!

Vintage Seltzer Bottles

Went to the Iron Horse Hotel in Milwaukee this summer. There were vintage seltzer bottles all over the place--in the lobby, the bar, and in their adorable little boutique. These were set up on the window casting a beautiful glow.

Garden Gifts

Both of the items in this painting were gifts! My mom gave the flower bouquet from one of her large hydrangea plants, which look even more beautiful as they've started to dry out. The pumpkins were clipped from our next-door neighbors vine. They recently moved, so it's bittersweet!

This paintings puts me in a TINY bit of an autumn mood, but just a bit!

For My Salsa

We only had one tomato plant this year and it didn't do very well. Luckily my mom had many varieties of plants producing and was more than willing to share. Many amazing batches of salsa were made this summer! Is there anything as delicious as summer tomatoes?
