Glamour Girl

Went to a beautiful garden and shop this past weekend. The highlight for me was the lone chicken running around the plants. She stopped for a little photo session and was the most personable bird I'd ever worked with. :)

Not a Goddess

I have been studying the history of some of my favorite artists--first saw Manet's work years ago at an amazing exhibit at The Art Institute of Chicago. My goal is to go back and study many of these artists who were so strongly influenced by each other. It has been a lot of fun so far and extremely motivating!

This painting was inspired by Edouard Manet's painting "The Luncheon on the Grass" (without the foreground). Manet was not dependent on the sales of his paintings, so was able to really push the boundaries of the time. Initially, I just thought she was really beautiful, but learning the stories behind paintings makes them so much better!

The process I used to paint this was different. Normally I sketch in my painting with light transparent paint, but this time I did a dark wash and wiped out the woman's form. It was interesting and felt strange, forcing an uncomfortable looseness.

Radishes on Glass Plate

Found this gorgeous bunch of radishes while at the store. My older son loves them with salt, so I had an excuse to purchase (and paint)! Thought the glass plate added some nice shadow interest.

"Spirit of the Night"

This painting was inspired by one of my favorite works of artist John Atkinson Grimshaw. There is a cheap print hanging in my home that I have never been able to part with; something about it really speaks to me. Decided to try my own rendition and made a time-lapse video of the process which is posted on my Instagram page here.

Grapes on Glass Plate

The last glass painting was definitely looser than this one... However, after painting the grapes I felt the plate needed to be tidier or it would attract more of the attention. SO much fun experimenting with this glass; going to keep at it!

Still Summer...

In my mind summer is officially over once school begins. Maybe it's the teacher in me? However, when temperatures are in the 80s with 90+ percent humidity, it still feels like summer!

Garden Gifts

Both of the items in this painting were gifts! My mom gave the flower bouquet from one of her large hydrangea plants, which look even more beautiful as they've started to dry out. The pumpkins were clipped from our next-door neighbors vine. They recently moved, so it's bittersweet!

This paintings puts me in a TINY bit of an autumn mood, but just a bit!

Juicy Grapefruit

Trying to paint some of my favorite things, large scale, starting with this juicy grapefruit.

Meyer Lemon

Were lucky enough to have a huge Meyer Lemon tree in our yard while in California. Smaller than a regular lemon, and a bit sweeter towards orange fruits. Delicious in cocktails!

The Bluest

Absolutely love blue flowers, especially these delphiniums that bloom large and strong throughout the entire summer.

Yellow Iris

All of the irises in our yard are in full bloom. Such a treat to find joy like this outside again.

Peppers

Another in my foods series--mostly attracted to the colors and great forms here. It was a lot of fun to paint!

Beckett the Boxer

This young lady was commissioned for a friend of my husbands. She is quite a talented dog, seen here balancing a piece of pepperoni on her nose. The word is she has steely will-power and will balance it there until told "ok" before attempting to flip it into her mouth. I love a pup with personality!

The Turkey Trot

This guy was doing his job so well! He and many females are often in or around our yard and we love when his feathers are open. He is very sure to block our view of the ladies while looking big and fearless at the same time.

Very impressive! ❤️

Pistachio Macaroon

One of my most favorite desserts lately, and pistachio is definitely my pick. My husband got the raspberry one--love the color combination and fun set up.
