Went to a beautiful garden and shop this past weekend. The highlight for me was the lone chicken running around the plants. She stopped for a little photo session and was the most personable bird I'd ever worked with. :)

Degas Inspired Dancers
The fourth in my series of master's studies. This one was inspired by Edgar Degas and his many, many dancers paintings. Love his looseness and use of color, so considered to be one of my very favorite artists.

Hydrangea's Large
Loved the smaller version of this, so decided to go larger.

Medium Boiled
When you cut open an egg and all you see is pure beauty... Probably the single best thing about being an artist or an appreciator of art, seeing extraordinary in the ordinary.

Hydrangeas
Went to a baby shower recently and brought home some blue hydrangeas and pink tulips. I've been enjoying having fresh flowers in the house! Such inspiration for painting. :) Love the glow of this top one and also the whimsy and fun of the one on stripes.

Poor Peacock
This guy was painted seven years ago and has hung on our wall ever since. For the last few years I had been wanting to redo him a bit, but couldn't remember how I was using mediums back then. Finally this weekend I decided that he was either coming down or getting a facelift; he definitely at least needed an eyeball! Nice to see and feel progress like this.

There is something about these little guys that makes me chuckle.

Measuring Up
Ever have those days when you just need a good challenge? Me too. :) These stainless measuring cups and patterned fabric provided it! One trick was keeping the oranges and blues separate, but also keeping the pattern loose. Also really love the lost edge on the shadow side of the cups. The front of the cups also provided a perfect example of painting what I saw--the reflection.

Yellow Tomatoes
The kids were home from school the other day and acted as my "production company". We made a fun time-lapse video of me painting this one. I'm going to try and do them more often!

Still Summer...
In my mind summer is officially over once school begins. Maybe it's the teacher in me? However, when temperatures are in the 80s with 90+ percent humidity, it still feels like summer!

Pomegranate
I painted this very same pomegranate long ago on an 8x8" flat panel and loved it so much that it's hanging in my kitchen. Thought I'd try it in a larger scale and am thrilled with it!

Nala
My brother's girlfriend got this adorable blonde-haired kitten named Nala. They brought her over so my boys could meet her. This painting is my apology for my over-excited children! :)

Farmer's Market Flowers
Was having lunch at one of my favorite restaurants on the square after visiting the farmer's market. The outdoor tables had the most adorable little arrangements. Thought this one was so summery set against the blue tables.

One & One on the Way
We have what seems to be a return family of robins that build and nest in the same spot each year. So fun watching the eggs hatch and seeing the robins leave the nest for the first time. Those parents work hard!

The Bluest
Absolutely love blue flowers, especially these delphiniums that bloom large and strong throughout the entire summer.

At the Union
Thought this canvas was the perfect size for painting a chair from the union. The chairs come in teal and yellow too, but the orange is my favorite--especially with the lake behind. There is something about this chair that just screams fun times in the summer.
