Chocolate Strawberry
Maybe my absolute favorite sweet treat. One of our Valentine's Day traditions is to make chocolate covered strawberries. Delicious and healthy too! ;)

Grapefruit in Bowl
The very same grapefruit in the bowl, but cropped in. Some of my favorite color combinations here. Juicy enough to eat!

Al Fresco
This was definitely a challenge for me. I don't typically paint scenes like this, but I was drawn to this one. There is something about being tucked into a cozy little spot to dine or drink al fresco that I love.

Plant Cart
Interior paintings are always very attractive to me. The other day this cart and plants had really nice lighting on them, so I thought I'd give it a try. Very different from what I typically paint... A good challenge though, for sure.

Ballet Slippers
My friend brought over a few pairs of her ballet slippers for me to paint. Awesome inspiration! They remind me of taking ballet class when I was a girl.

Fearless Chicken
Painting chickens always has me reflecting on how far my painting has come. I remember the very first one and how terrified I was to paint the face, and how to get the feathers right... There have been many in between, but definitely no fear with this little chicken. :)

Fresh Flowers
Flowers and vases are something that I like to come back to. Painting them well is a challenge, but also completely loose and enjoyable. This one has a more romantic quality.

Typewriter III
It seems each of us has a memory of these great machines. This is the third in my series, although I had so much fun with these antiques... You may see some more of them--perhaps larger!

Amaryllis Bulbs
My recent trip to the garden shop was definitely worth it! Not only did I get to absorb all of the warmth and amazing color, there was also much painting inspiration. This is my third painting of flowers from that visit.

Grapefruit & Spoon
The photo searching was coming up short, so I went into my kitchen for some inspiration. When I cut into this grapefruit and saw the deep red interior, I knew this was it. Grabbed a few dishes and set up a still life that appealed to me. :)

Leeks
Leeks are the most creamy delicious onions for soups or risottos. Besides their great taste, they're much more fun to cut than regular onions! Also great to grow in our Wisconsin gardens.

Sunburst Chair
I have done quite a few chair paintings recently. These sunburst chairs are very well known in Wisconsin and come in aqua, yellow, and orange. They come from the Madison Union and make all of us long for live music and beer by the lake.

Grapefruit Slice
The sun was shining and I had tons of citrus in the house, so thought I'd give this a try. Grapefruits are one of my favorite fruits, so was the star of this painting. Looks good enough to eat!

Primrose
Another painting inspired by my local garden shop. I love primrose. Every time I hear the name now I will think of Catniss' sister from The Hunger Games novels!

Chairs for Two
Am so drawn to these vintage metal chairs, and this pair especially being red. There is something to be said for sitting back and taking it easy, enjoying life. Even better if there's someone sitting next to you.

Grape Hyacinth Bulbs
Made a stop this past weekend at my local garden shop for some inspiration. These little hyacinth bulbs are one of my favorites. Seeing them made me so excited for spring!

Avid Drinker with a Painting Problem
Nice title? My brother, the same one who took the photo, named it for me. It's also his birthday today, so I post (and toast) in his honor. :)
My husband and I did go to Kentucky for the first time this past summer. Beautiful state known for their bourbon and horses. I don't think I will be attempting to paint horses any time soon, but knew this one would be a great challenge.

Beets Me (2)
Was at Whole Foods with my son and was drawn in, as I often am, to the gorgeous colors in the produce department. Love beets, but honestly had no idea they came in so many colors! They were arranged just perfectly on the shelf and so much fun to paint.

Waiting for Flowers
You may have heard me mention that I have a glass addiction. Found this beautiful vase online and had to have it. It's been sitting on my kitchen table just waiting for flowers. The sun was shining and lit the entire thing up; it was beautiful.

Peacock
There are peacocks walking around at the Milwaukee Zoo. For some reason it is always quite alarming to be eating a picnic lunch and see a peacock walk by. Even more surprising is their call--loud and obnoxious, but sure to get a huge laugh out of me every time.

Chicken
Can't say why I paint chickens. Perhaps I am easily amused? I do love to paint animals that I find entertaining to watch and chickens are certainly that.

Roses & Pomegranate
I thought pomegranate season was over, so was thrilled to find dwarf sized ones at the store this week. Also purchased some mini roses in an antique pink that I thought would look beautiful in my new geometric vase. Some adorable "little" subjects to paint.

Squirrels
My mom has so many adorable little knick-knacks. These two little squirrel statues were basking in the sunlight of her window while I was there. There is nothing better to paint than something that makes me giggle.
